Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

The Toronto Systems Security Group is searching for talented and motivated postdoctoral fellows to become part of our team working on exciting scientific research projects. Researchers in computer engineering or computer science, or similar discipline who have received their Ph.D. within the last three years are encouraged to apply. A successful applicant will receive a competitive salary and excellent benefits. The Toronto Systems Security Group performs novel and innovative research in the areas of computer security, digital privacy and system reliability, and is funded by a variety of government programs, industry sponsors and non-profit groups. The University of Toronto is Canada’s largest university, located in Toronto, Canada’s largest city and a vibrant and diverse metropolitan center.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform research, development and implementation of new and existing algorithms, systems and tools that will improve the security and reliability of computing systems, including novel hardware/software architectures for security, mobile smartphones, Trusted Computing technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
  • Work in a collaborative environment advising junior graduate students, organizing research meetings and managing research projects.
  • Author peer-reviewed scientific articles and contribute to grant proposals.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related field.
  • Established record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience implementing and evaluating large to moderate software systems, and familiarity with a variety of software packages and programming languages such as C/C++, Java and Python.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with development and administration of open-source software systems such as Android, Linux, KVM, Xen
  • Experience with vulnerability detection tools such as AFL, Wireshark, Scapy, and IDA Pro
  • Experience with code analysis and software engineering tools such as LLVM, Z3, KLEE, Angr
  • Knowledge of computer architecture and hardware security including x86 and ARM ISAs, and hardware security extensions such as SGX, MPX, TXT, ARM PAC
  • Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and security protocols such as RSA, AES, DH, secret sharing, multiparty computing and IPSec
  • Experience and familiarity with source control and collaboration systems such as Git, SVN
  • Experience with machine learning tools such as Weka, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras
